The Old School Throwback Festival falls at the close of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the organisers were determined that it would mean something more than a colour scheme.

The day opens at 5:30am with a Fun Run, followed by a mass Zumba session led by some of Harare's leading instructors. Everyone is in pink. A wellness area on site will offer free health checks through the morning, and a dedicated awareness moment takes place on the main stage in the late afternoon, when the crowd is at its largest.

"Our audience is people in their thirties and forties," organisers say. "This is exactly the age where early detection messaging matters most, and these are people who don't often walk into a clinic for a check-up. If a few thousand of them leave talking about it, that is worth doing."

An important note for anyone planning their day: the morning programme is ticketed separately. The Fun Run and Zumba ticket costs USD 20, runs from 5:30am to 10am, and does not include entry to the festival. Equally, a festival ticket does not include the morning programme. They are two separate products, and both are available at throwback.co.zw.

Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome. You do not need to be a runner — you need to show up.

Registration is open now.
